The CPU loop

New idea

What happens when you open an app?

You double-click an app and it opens in a blink. But what does the computer actually do in that moment?

First, the app is copied from storage into RAM (the fast, numbered memory boxes from the last lesson). An app is mostly a long list of instructions, and each instruction is just a number, stored in a box like any other data.

The part that reads those boxes and obeys them is the CPU (Central Processing Unit), the brain of the computer.
